German groups protest over authorisation of Bayer’s carbon nanotube facility
The Association for Environmental and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND), the Coalition against Bayer-Dangers and the Federal Association of Environmental Action Groups (BBU) have criticised the commissioning of Bayers production plant for carbon nanotubes (CNT) in Leverkusen.
The groups say the facility was approved as a pilot plant to produce trial amounts of CNTs, and as such was exempt from licensing under the provisions of the Federal Pollution Control Act. The groups say the local building authority of Leverkusen is not equipped to assess the potential risks. They want authorisation to involve public participation and a toxicological evaluation. The campaign is planning to raise the issue at Bayers AGM tomorrow.
